NOTICE is hereby given given that a bill substantially as follows will be introduced in the 2020 Regular Session of the Legislature of Alabama and application for its passage and enactment will be made.

A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT

Relating to Choctaw County; to provide for the election of a separate chair of the county commission effective the next term of office of the county commission; to provide for the salary of the chair; and to provide that the judge of probate would no longer serve as chair of the county commission; and to provide a referendum.

BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:

Section 1.      (a) In Choctaw County, commencing at the general election in 2022, the chair of the Choctaw County Commission shall be elected county-wide and the judge of the probate of the county shall no longer serve as chair of the county commission. The chair of the county commission elected pursuant to this act shall take office on the same day that the members of the county commission take office and shall serve a term concurrent with members of the county commission.

(b) The chair of the county commission shall receive an annual salary of forty-five thousand dollars ($45,000) per year payable in equal installments from the general fund of the county, which salary shall be subject to adjustments in the same manner as members of the county commission.

(c) The chair of the county commission may vote in any matter coming before the commission and the chair shall count in determining whether a quorum is present for the commission to conduct business.

(d) The county commission shall select a commissioner to serve as chair in the absence of the elected chair.

(e) The chair of the county commission shall maintain an office in the county courthouse and shall be regularly available to attend to the business of the county.

Section 2. This act shall become operative only if approved by a majority of the qualified electors of Choctaw County who vote in an election to be held on the day designated by the Judge of Probate of Choctaw County. The notice of the election shall be given by the judge of probate, and the election shall be held, conducted, and the results canvassed in the manner as other county elections. The election shall be held in conjunction with the next regularly scheduled state or local election to be held in the county. The question shall be, “Do you favor the adoption of Act _____ of the 2020 Regular Session of the Alabama Legislature provide for the Chair of the County Commission to be elected county-wide and providing for his or her annual salary and providing that the judge of probate would no longer serve as chair? Yes ( ) No ( ).” The county shall pay any costs and expenses not otherwise reimbursed by a governmental agency which are incidental to the election. If a majority of the votes cast in the election are “Yes,” this act shall become operative immediately. If the majority of the votes are “No,” this act shall be repealed and shall have no further effect. The Judge of Probate of Choctaw County shall certify the results of the election to the Secretary of State.

Section 3. This act shall become effective on the first day of the third month following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.

Coastal Alabama Community College’s Dental Assisting program will undergo an accreditation site visit by the Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) on June 25-26, 2020.

In accordance with CODA requirements, the College requests comments from interested third party individuals. Comments must be in writing and sent to: 211 East Chicago Avenue, Chicago, IL 60611.

  • Comments must pertain only to the standards relative to the Dental Assisting program as listed above, or policies and procedures used in the accreditation process.
  • A copy of the appropriate accreditation standards and/or the commission’s policy on third-party comments may be obtained by contacting the commission at: 211 East Chicago Avenue, Chicago, IL 60611, or by calling 1/800-621-8099, extension 4653.
  • Deadline for receipt of third-party comments in the commission office is 60 days prior to the site visit, or April 24, 2020. Comments will be screened by commission staff for relevancy and signed or unsigned comments will be considered.
