FLOOD WARNING
The National Weather Service has issued a weather alert for Choctaw County and surrounding areas.
Heavy rainfall is expected over the next 24 hours, likely resulting in more flooding in the river areas.
A flood warning has been issued for the Tombigbee River near Coffeeville Dam. Counties that could be affected by the flooding include Choctaw, Clarke, and Washington.
At 8 a.m. on Friday, the river stood at 20.6 feet. Flood stage is 29 feet. Following this weekend’s predicted rainfall, the river is expected to rise to about 29.1 feet by Tuesday night and continue to rise until early Wednesday morning. Depending on rainfall, additional increases may occur. Low-lying areas and pastureland around the river will likely see flooding as the river begins to rise.
Watch for updates on the predicted flooding as new information is released.
