Explosive device removed from pipeline in Sumter County

SUMTER – An explosive device was found along a pipeline in an area just over the Choctaw-Sumter County line on Wednesday afternoon, and authorities from both counties responded to the scene.

According to Choctaw County Sheriff Scott Lolley, a passerby noticed the device and notified the Game Warden who, in turn, contacted Lolley’s office. The Sumter County Sheriff’s Department was also called to the scene.

The device was located in an area near Edna Road, about ½-mile from the county line just inside Sumter County.

Authorities on the scene notified the Explosive Ordinance Disposal unit who responded to the scene and removed the device.

No other information is being provided about the incident.
